Anyone know a good supplier of carbon tubing?
Looking to get some for a frame I’m building and it seems that most of the suppliers I’ve found do a minimum length of 2+ metres and I only need a couple of 1m lengths.

I’ll ask the obvious as someone will… is a 2m length not a couple of 1m lengths?

    Haha..to clarify, I need a couple of different sizes @ 1m long 😉

Custom Composites (who seem to have merged into http://www.attwater.com) used to come highly recommended as a cheaper source for tubes in sailing dinghies (tiller extensions, booms, racks etc), you;d probably still have to buy everything in standard lengths though.

Thanks TINAS, have spoken to CC to see what they can do 🙂

I’d just ring round and ask if they have off cuts… or design the frame to take the same dia tubing.

    I normally use Easy Composites.

Bare in mind you won’t know anything about the rein or fibres. The Easy Composites stuff I have used has alternate layers of glass and carbon.

Why not just make your own? Knock up a simple mandrel.

You probably know, but just be sure that you get roll-wrapped or filament wound tubes, not pulltruded ones which are cheaper and nowhere near as strong.

They don’t do the 35mm Ø I’m looking to use

Yeah, had a couple of samples and the pulltruded stuff was weak as hell.

    yeah, pultruded is rubbish.

The guys who use it hate me pointing that out 😀

They seem to have the Roll Wrapped tubes available in 35mm ID or 34.8 OD (32 ID).

Roll wrapped is a pretty rough finish 🙁

its not in the Uk but its usually here in two days flat which is better than most of the suppliers in the UK can manage and that’s if you can find a good one

ps we make our own for everything

I used easy composites and east coast composites, though i only used it for the seat tube.

Yes but 5 mins leveling the resin with some sand paper sorts it out.
