Just put a new battery in the car…should be the correct one as used the Reg number identifier on the Halfrauds site to get the correct car model yada yada. Anyhow, it is a different physical size….basically its only about 3/4 as long. Its gone in fine, and seems secure as a retainer bar sits across the top, but is there any rule that says the physical dimensions should be the same?

a smaller form factor battery can still have the same Ah and cold cranking as a bigger one. Check the Ah and cold cranking figures against the specification for the car.

I remember once fitting the battery from a MkII Escort into a MkIII. It was a bit of a fiddle because it was a different shape, but I managed to jury-rig it.

Everything went well until I shut the bonnet after a job well done, to discover that the replacement battery was also a bit taller than the old one. The positive terminal earthed itself onto the rapidly descending bonnet, and the engine stopped abruptly to the accompaniment of a loud bang, a bright flash and the acrid aroma of electrical burning.
