Hi guys,
Got myself a f800 the other week but the dlr lefty forks need a rebuild, can anyone recommend someone that can do this for me or even better someone local to me.
I’m in the sheffield area

Thumbprint tuning were the guys to go with apparently when I was running a lefty. Never used them but seemed to get good reviews.

There’s less than a handful of places that will service them. Thumbprint is one. Think there’s one call the arc, or similar, cheltenham/gloucester way. Pretty sure there are two others, but cant think of them. both cannondale specialists, one in the uk one in germany if memory serves.

If you really get stuck, there is a chap in the US that offered to do mine.

Are you sure it needs work? you can pull the boot back, and slap a load of grease in, works wonders.

Ace bike by the way, best mtb I’ve ever been lucky enough to ride…till it broke!

Yeah I am over the moon with the bike but it’s a bit of a project, when I say the forks need a rebuild they literally need rebuilding as in they are in bits, I think it might be more economical to get some replacements to be honest

Don’t sussed out look at cannondale as well?

Used thumbprint a few times back in my lefty days – recommended. Thought TFTuned were doing them now as well?

There’s step by step guides on how to do it on the web, but it’s a bit of a project – esp if you need to order replacement parts.
Not up to date with current leftys, but secondhand dlr2s in decent nick used to go for a couple of hundred on ebay.

Sussed Out Suspension in East Bergholt can rebuild it too. Could be a tad expensive mind if it needs lots of work.

Are the ones I am aware of.

Never been able to get Thumbprint to answer the phone or email so they have never had business out of me.

Will not use Noah’s again for any service work. Disorganised muppets at the best of times.

TFTuned have worked on a Fatty and a Lefty for me and I have no hesitation in recommending them.

There are several places that may or may not do a good job and may or may not return the fork within a couple of weeks but TF have been consistently excellent for me with a super quick turnaround time, great quality of work, great communication if something odd comes up and very reasonable prices too 😀

As far as I know TF won’t work on the very old Lefty’s (mk1 and mk2 DLR) which it sounds like you might have, but some more details or pics would be able to confirm which model it is, if it’s a later F800 if might be a one of the later chassis versions or a DLR2.

but could be worth asking them, as they’ll work on older Headshoks, and some of the models they have listed on that page (DLR/Jake etc.) are pre-2006.

Tony @Thumbprint is my go-to but then he is only 30mins ride away from me but he will work on anything, he’s terrible at answering emails, and sometimes takes a few goes on the phone if he’s very busy (I think he is on Holiday at the moment BTW and due back after the BH)

One thing you do need to be aware of is that there are limited options with the old DLR models, the can’t take the new dampers so you’ll be stuck with the old ones (spares available but getting rarer…), and they do need a bit more looking after than the newer ones as the bearings are resettable at home like the newer and split ring models.

If you’re feeling brave and have all the parts and tools (there are some specific ones for the older lefty’s) then you can rebuild yourself but not a job for those that lack patience.

I rang thumbprint a number of times and didn’t seem to have any problems getting through to them and they were happy to discuss work and give lefty advice. Did feel like a bit of a one man band outfit though…always spoke to the same guy who always answered the phone. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I also used Qwerty for lefty advice, so they may be able to help with servicing options (don’t think they do it themselves).

Always used Tony, as mentioned contact was interesting, but he did a good job, so I thought it worth the effort to support a ‘one man band’ setup. I saw somewhere he’s now associated with Xodusbikeworks.co.uk ..listed as the chief mechanic, they list suspension servicing (all types) as one of there services

Thanks for the replies guys I have been doing some research online etc, however I think rebuilding these is not going to be economical as the special tool is 80 quid to buy anyway!
I’m going to probably buy some secondhand …. Anyone got any for sale?

Leisure Lakes did a top job on mine a year ago.

Sussed out also did my friends lefty a while back. Very thorough service compared to others I’ve used.
