Please please fill some of those **** holes in!!! What could be lovely flowing sections are ruined by 9" deep bloody pot holes!! Then when you've repaired it ban the idiots who skid into every corner/berm and create them!!

And could someone please get rid of those nasty rocks I came across in the mountains today too?
Posted 7 months ago # -
It's the only trail centre were a full susser is needed.
It's a problem with it all been on sand though

Why don't you help chasetrails out?
Posted 7 months ago # -
Yup, our unpaid volunteer trail builders welcome all help every sunday, 10am outside Swinnertons at Birches Valley.
The strange thing I find is that all of the sections with braking bumps can be ridden without skidding, on a hardtail. We do seem to have attraced some numpties.

DS you ridden it? I don't "do" trail centres as a rule but it has the ability to be great. In parts it is frankly dangerous/****!

I have got to agree about the braking bumps, they're horrible. I remember one section particularly where you've got those 3 drop offs in a row and then a tight bermed righ hander. I flew straight off the last drop and then promptly shat myself on the braking bumps. They were horrendous.

all sarcastic comments aside Chase Trails are working through an extensive maintenance programme. You'll have seen that the final section of the tackeroo descent is closed. This is to repair crucial sections of the descent and the infamous rollers.
It's a simple fact that All of the trail upgrades, maintenace etc is done by the volunteers. The FC are great but have a very limited budget, without the countless hours of volunteer time there wouldn't be a trail to ride.
Worth bearing in mind before you throw antagonostic words like **** around.
Last time I got to ride the trail was a couple of weeks ago and as far as the trail surface goes it's fair to say it's not as we would like it in a lot of places but dangerous, really?
And no, car parking revenue is not enough to employ a contractor full time to carry out the maintenance. Last time I got to ride the trail was a couple of weeks ago and as far as the trail surface goes it's fair to say it's not as we would like it in a lot of places but dangerous, really?

Dangerous?
:lol:Perhaps Chase Trails should get the pollyfiller out?

It's **** dangerous in parts!! I don't give a **** how gnar you think you are! I ride all kinds of stuff, all on a 120 mm xc bike, I had stitches in my face just over a week ago from riding stuff near home which i know and I got wrong! My point being there are sections which if you're not experienced, you will get wrong due to the trail conditions and not rider error! Oh an just as a pointer one of the lads who I rode with today travelled up from London and is a landscape architect who is heavily involved with trail design, his view (even tho he loved it) was parts should be closed because they are dangerous!!

you'd expect braking bumps in braking areas. riders unsure of speed into a berm will brake before it hopefully. that erodes trails. most riders skid the rear without even realising
Posted 7 months ago # -
Oh and maximum respect to the volunteers willing to give up their time, I'd do the same if I lived closer!

Chill wrightyson. There's not any more dangerous about those sections than any other trail that's good for MTBing, natural, or man made. You've got eyes, brakes and can ride a bike can't you? I took my dad round follow the dog the other day on an eBay special carrera that's too big for him, he hasn't ridden a bike for years, and never really off road. He loved it, had no problem with braking bumps, and did not think it was dangerous. He did do a proper comedy fall off at werewolf drop though, which made me chuckle...
Anyway, maximum respect to all the trail builders who give their time up freely. Thankyou. (the trail erosion is a bit of a pain, but I'm sure you guys are all over it)
On a separate note, ST, when's that section that's seems to have been closed forever going to open again? SKeems such a shame to spin along the fire road...

Jeebus! I was sure this was just a troll, but you actually seem to be serious. Bumps? On a mountain bike trail? How very dare they!
Posted 7 months ago # -
Dangerous? You have to be kidding me!!!!
I took some folks round not that long ago, and one was riding a touring bike with drops as it was the only bike he had and he managed just fine, so I'm sure a 120mm XC bike will cope!

Rough track on mountain bike trail full of holes. **** me you dont ride any natural stuff thats rough with those nasty horrid rocks and roots in and all those nasty wet puddles that could be deep?

Dangerous
LOL as I believe the kids say these daysMay I suggest you and your friend take up golf / golf course design

Bumps in a bike trail! Got to be trolling, good job natural trails are predicatble and smooth. You might want to stick to the high peak trail
Much as the cannock boys/ girls do a great job with what they have got; if your mate was coming up from London, why head out to cannock when you have shinning cliff on your doorstep?

I, myself have lost 2 bicycle clips at Cannock due to those dangerous holes! ... but they have got me thinking ...
I wonder how long it'll be before some boffin engineer type works out how to attach a spring type device to the front fork which through the magic of science would then almost absorb said bumps .... mmmmm, Dragons Den me thinks!

The reflectors fell off my Electra cruiser last time I rode there.
Posted 7 months ago # -
Its been a good while since I've ridden at Cannock, but between 93 and 2007 I rode it a lot and I'd say its not just the bumps, through the forest there are far too many roots and these are just plain dangerous and will have you off.

My 5 year old son got round just fine - you must be crap

I really dislike it when people are stroppy and OTT about an MTB trail without rolling their sleeves up and doing something about it...
It is an off-road trail - not a manicured tarmac covered cycle path - if you find it dangerous - go slower...

To all those willing to criticise trail maintainence please go to your nearest trail centre and lend a hand...you may learn a thing or two too.
Up at Dalby the volunteers have dwindled to under 3..:(
And before the arguments about funding/car park fees start, there is no money so any repairs will have to be by volunteers or they won't happen.
On the plus side under the auspices of trail maintainence there is lots of room to build new features or massively improve sections. Like all things it's amazing how often you think 'I'd build it differently if I did it again', well maintainence let's you do just that.

Dangerous? Rubbish, the wife and I go there every weekend and I've not had an off in years (literally, rather tragically). Some blisteringly hot summers the sand can get a bit crazy, it's in good nick at the moment though, the new section 10 is awesome too. Awesome seeing the quality of sections improve with each iteration.
Compared to most Scottish and Welsh trails Cannock probably gets 10x the traffic, with 1/10th the budget, loads of them get tourism grants.

Sounds like you are riding too quickly for your ability, slow down before you hurt yourself.
Don't disagree that there are braking bumps, but you need to learn how to go light on the front, aim and 'float' though.
HT rider here, and last enjoyed CC in the late summer.

I ride the Monkey on a bike with no suspension and I'm not dead
Posted 7 months ago # -
WTF??!!
Most people are over biked at trail centres anyway. Learn to ride them and they'll become an added obstacle that you'll enjoy when you can maintain your speed and flow through them.
If you are really concerned lend a hand and find out how much it takes to build a trail, then maybe you'll have more respect for others damn hard work and charity

DS you ridden it? I don't "do" trail centres as a rule but it has the ability to be great. In parts it is frankly dangerous/****!
I don't have to have. It's me and my ability that determine if a route is dangerous. There are plenty of routes that I consider as being dangerous but many a downhiller will hammer down without a second thought.
There are no dangerous routes, just **** riders.Posted 7 months ago # -
As far as riders ability goes, i'm about as **** as they get. Having started riding 2-3 months ago i'm sure most of you would class me as a bit of a novice, plus i'm a girl!!! I tend to go at most things with a bit of enthusiasm and have nose dived a few times at the fod due to this. Despite my lack of ability i find cannock to be rather enjoyable. But hey if you're gonna get rid of the charachteristic bumps, would you mind greatly getting rid of that nasty hill too!!!
