I’ve never been to Cannock Chase before, but am getting the chance on sunday, so I was wondering if the Panaracer Fire XCs are going to be up to the job, or whether I should whip them off and replace them with something else.

Anyone local got a preference for the best tyre?

Fire xc pro’s are fine for the job, the best tyres though are those designed for dealing with general loose stuff etc….such as..

    or any similar rivals.

    Ace. Thanks.

I’ll just stick some air in the normal tyres then.

If you’re doing it properly you should take 2-3 different pairs and fit what works best on the day.

Best to pre-ride the trail first obviously, and account for drainage/weather changes before you do the “proper” ride.

I’d go for an mtb tyre every time over say a car or truck set……

2.7 supertacky Minions front and rear, dual ply, obviously.
If not, whatever you have on at the moment, it will be fine, there is nothing to overly challenge the tyres.

Racing ralphs, thin Nobby nics in the dry for me.

Although as above i’m going to give XR4 a go based on what other cannock regulars use.

If its wet something which will `stick’ to the wet polished cobbles.

Tyres with some grip are fine. There is no slippy mud, wider treads can help on the pebbly bits.

All the Kewl riders use Bonty tyres from Swinnertons in Fenton.

other way, less pressure = less pebble related trauma

For a sunday ride you will need something you can bimble round on, no one does anything ‘fast’ on a sunday 😉
