I am planning to buy my wife a canary for Christmas.
Any canary owners on here to give some advice?
Anything I should be aware of before I buy, best to buy one or two, where from approx price etc.

They're quite big islands, and quite a few people live on them. Personally I like Tenerife, especially the western coast, and Mount teide.
I'll get my coat, other than the islands I know naff all about the animals.

Don't phone the gas board straight away if they go still and close their eyes - they may have just gone to sleep.

Cheer up Sputnik, three responses about canaries on a bike forum is pretty good going I think!

Let the poor lil' buggers fly free
who in their right mind would want to cage a bird???
get the lass a nice pair of comfy slippers instead chap

Buy yourself some earplugs too - lived in a house with the feckers once and their chirping became like some sort of torture technique. As soon as the landlady went out they got a teatowel lobbed over the cage to shut em up.

I agree with Dylan, nothing sadder than a caged bird. How about a (rampant) Rabbit instead?

A Canary is for life, not just for Christmas
Reminds me of the comedy sketch (Mike Harding????) about the guy who accidentally picks up his mates budgie instead of his turkey when leaving the pub on Christmas Eve....)

I'm sure there's a minor bird joke there somewhere...
(although realistically it was probably closed down by Maggie)

Remember - Nothing succeeds like a beakless canary.
