  • Campsite near good food pub?

My sister and I are off for a girly camping trip. Can you recommend me a campsite within 3 hours of Oxford? We have no requirements other than a good pub (good pub food, doesn’t need to be a gastrothingy) within easy walking distance.

    Cheers for any help

Hit Enter a bit too quick there….

If countryside then there is a great little farm campsite at Talybont on Usk near Brecon which is handy for the Star Inn, which is a lovely pub on the banks of the canal within striking distance of Pen Y Fan.

For coastal then Croyde in North Devon is worth a trip – lovely beaches, surfing good walking etc although it can get very busy in the summer. Several campsites – Cherry Tree Farm and Bay View are probably the most sedate. Also several pubs. The Thatch is great fun, very lively and does reasonable pub grub. The Manor is a short walk and does more restaurant style food. The Rock in Georgeham is about a mile away though and would be my pick of the bunch – it’s a lovely litte place:

Red Shoot pub and campsite, New Forest (about an hour and half from you). Direct access to Forest, not far to coast, plenty of biking. Decent food and cider too!

Edit – should have checked Huckleberrys link before posting this!

Just thought of another. Stayed here with a big group of friends last year: http://www.burrowhayes.co.uk/

Lovely spot and walking distance to Porlock – Ship Inn and Culbone both pretty good. Millers down at Porlock Weir for posh. Some cracking riding around there too.

Saracen’s Head, Symonds Yat. Top food, some lovely trails around, too.

Oh, and another vote for Talybont on Usk. Great country.

Really don’t mind countryside or coast. Redshoots is a good shout but we’ve been there before. Likewise Ashurst up the road.

    Talybont looks good.

I go to the FOD a lot with the boyfriend but always eat at the New Inn. Might not take my sister as she has no interest in riding bikes 😯 But will definitely try the Saracen’s Head next time we go.

Will check out all the others. Thanks for the help.

Great fish restaurant down the road, walk to Woolacombe for drinks (2 pubs in Mortehoe are ‘ok’)

Cheers Houns, but my violent sea food allergy makes that a little unappealing 😆

Long Mynd is lovely, not sure what there is to do for a non-biker who doesn’t like long walks or gliders?

    Another vote for Talybont here.
The Star is my local, have a Star burger with our Cowboy Pickles ;-).
The Travellers is another very good eatery just a short wander down the road.

    Happy holidays!
