We have a two week road trip planned in sept with the bikes (well its planned in that we have most of the Vertebrae guides and we are just goinging with the weather!). However, the starting point is the NW for a few days (as I am on a course with Ed O at Gisburn). We also want to ride Lee and Crag Quarry, and probably some other classic xc from Benji H’s book) so will probably stay in the area for a few days, before driving on to follow the *sunshine*! Can anyone recomend a good campsite, near a good pub in the area to get us started? Was going to camp at Hartleys, but with the Dog and Partridge seemingly only opening on a Saturday evening (according to the t’interweb!), that might not work – unless someone can advise that it is open more than this?

Not sure but I think the pub is on the site.

Shame about the D+P it’s one of the best pubs I’ve visited. Hope Tim and Grace can turn it around.

Cheers. There is part of me that thinks we should go to Tosside to camp just so I can go to the D+P to help keep it open – was there briefly on one of Ed’s courses a few months ago and really liked it. But if they arent going to be open for many of the few days we will be there it is a bit remote! Be good if they could put a campsite next door to the pub. Sure that would help and Gisburn has got some great riding!

I dont know how true it is them not opening that much – just saw it in some other forums.

A few camp site in Clitheroe area that will take tents, notably Edisford and Three Rivers (West Bradford village)

The former is right next door to a pub and can walk into Clitheroe town. The latter a bit of a walk down the hill to 3 Millstones Pub or walk/bike into Waddington which has three good pubs.
Plenty of good off roading in vacinity; Waddy/Grindleton Fell, Longridge Fell, etc. Not too far from Gissie then on to Lee / Crag Quarry.

There is a campsite just down the road from the D+P called the Bowland forest caravan site. We’ve stayed there a few times and it’s great. The owner is probably the most laidback bloke you will ever meet.

The Tel no is 01729 840662.
