    Hello,

Changing the outers on my bike as they are toss and keep bending. Anyways, do I really need some MTB specific cable cutters? Cheapest ones I can find are £18 (Linky) whereas there are several generic cable cutters on eBay for less than £10.

The new outers will be these if that makes any difference.

    Cheers,

what exactly have you found on ebay? they may be for cutting copper electrical cable which is easier than steel cable housing.

And yes they are worth it IMHO. The main advantage is that the blades cross over each other. The chaper ones don't and can mangle the cables rather than cut them.

I have some Rolson ex-ebay cutters that are identical to the CRC linky ones. Less than a tenner IIRC. Here you are:

I use brand X. A useful tip is to buy a lighter and heat the cable before you cut it. Much easier and neater then.
