I want to convert my 2×10 Camber Evo (it’s the 2014 basic comp model) to 1×10. Never done anything more complicated on my bike than changing pedals.

It’s got a SRAM X9 Type 2 mid-cage RD, and according to the spec online, the crankset is “Custom SRAM S-1250, 10-speed Trail double, PF30 spindle, S: 170mm, Others: 175mm”.

I know I need one of these: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/race-face-narrow-wide-single-chainring/rp-prod109723 – I’m going to get the 32T one with 104mm BCD.

I am also aware that I may need some new bolts for the chainring, and possibly a chain guide – but I am not sure which chain guides might work or if they’re even needed.

Can any helpful soul point me in the right direction?

    Cheers then.

If you are using a N/W chainring, then most likely you will not need a chainguide.
Plenty do not use a chainguide at all.
I personally use a top guide only. A Blackspire trail guide, just for a bit more security and a ‘Taco’ guard included.

Chainring bolts you possibly may need. The N/W rings tend to be thicker so sometimes need a longer bolt.

If you choose a 30 tooth N/W Raceface ring as pictured, you actually only need one half of the bolt pair, as the chainring itself is threaded and the bolt screws directly into that.

Thanks for that. I’m gonna get the 32t one I think, I have managed OK just using the 36t ring for the last couple of months as a dress rehearsal.

I’ve got that Blackspire guide in the basket too, I am very suggestible.

Will these bolts do the job if I do need longer ones?

I converted my Alpine 160 to 1×10 a while back using a bundle from CRC – very happy with the results. I had to get two extra things that I hadn’t accounted for – the longer chainring bolts that you’ve already mentioned, and also a new connector link for the 10-speed chain to account for the slightly different link length. With the old 9-speed link the chain kept dropping off my chainring.

I didn’t fit a chainguide but kept a blackspire on on standby just in case, but the combo of the clutch mech and n/w chainring has done a great job!

You may not need that at all. Maybe try without it first, though it does offer some underneath protection too.
