As per the title – i’m about to buy a van (prob from a dealer). Any tips on the negotiation side of things? Other than “Can you knock 500 quid off please?”

    What angles do people take?

Offer less than the list price, have a reason. Ask how long it has been on their books. Ask how busy they have been over the past month or so in general friendly chat at the start of the meeting. Have a second offer ready. Walk away.

If you are not the sort of person who haggles on a regular basis, don’t try any “tricks” you read about on the Internet.

They do it all day every day, and don’t fall for tricks 😉

Just make an honest offer for what you Want to pay for it, and be prepared to leave it if they can’t or won’t sell it for what you feel that it’s worth.

Do it very near closing on a friday afternoon.. stall them so that they will be late getting home, be stubborn, wear them down.. hopefully they’ll cave in to get the hell out of work and give you a good deal…
