  • Bust Nipple. Replace nipples, spoke or more?

At lunch today I had a call from Mrs NBT, she was out on the bike and having been attacked by a vicious tree, had a bust spoke on the rear wheel. She managed to get home safely in the end, and having looked I see that in fact the nipple has snapped, meaning the spoke is still intact.

Worth just cleaning and re-using the existing spoke with a new nipple? Or should I bin and replace the spoke? Or something else?

Personally I would just replace the nipple and check the others for signs of cracking.

I’d just chuck a new nipple on there.

I wouldn’t even put a new nipple on. I’ve got some left from an old wheel so I’d put an old one on. Check the neighbouring ones for cracks.
