I’ve just removed two seized pistons from an old set of Juicy 5’s. There was no way they were moving even with maximum gonflage. Had to resort to drilling them then smashing to bits (the pistons). Luckily they are phenolic so quite brittle (like bakerlite).

All back together now. Nice new pistons/seals, new fluid and all bled and dandy 🙂

    There’s only one problem.

    They’re still Avids.

    Avids should be binned.

That’s a bit harsh (on the bin).

Yeah ’tis true, they are an acquired taste. Grown ups and the mechanically sympathetic only need apply 🙂

Could have given you a new caliper save you the trouble. I gave up with my set of 5’s and then 3’s.

The easiest job in the world…

Bin the Avids & buy some Deores

    Predictable, but true.

After 11 years (it might not be 11…it could be 110….feels the same) and having to deal with them on a weekly basis I have devised and manufactured a bespoke tool for un-seizing Juicy pistons.

    I don’t have a cape – I just MTFU

(Says the bloke who’s breaking out the long trousers for Wednesday night’s bonfire ride on the South Downs)
