   We're up in the Lakes this weekend, staying near Broughton in Furness. I've a map and a good memory of a ride I did recently with some local guys heading north out of Broughton on the disused railway, then looping anticlockwise back to the west and through the forest. I see on the boggies site that it's pretty close to the southern end of the walna scar route, so we could maybe link into that - any suggestions as to how?.

   Any other recommendations?

   Don't have a GPS so something we can print off would be appreciated, any offers of guiding for slow (fitness) but competent (enjoy riding technical stuff and twisty singletrack) riders would be rewarded with refreshing beverages at a local hostelry

   Not sure about biking but make sure you visit the Prince of Wales in Foxfield just down the road.

   Doesn't look like much from the outside but they brew their own beer, do lovely pasties, and have traditional pub games like bar billiards - it's a bit like being in someone's front room but a really unique little place.

   Ah the prince of wales. The current owners bought it off my parents about 10 years ago. Not to sure about the riding up there(wasn't into mtb back then :oops:)but if you head out of the square in broughton towards coniston torver is only about 5-6miles out. From there you could do one of my all time favourite routes in the lakes-Walna scar. I can vouch for the beer in the pow. The strawberry beer is lush

   Had planned to visit the pub in the village square (the manor), but will add the prince to the list. the old railway out of broughton will get us quite a way to Torver. Time to get some maps printed I think, I do have the V Graphics book somewhere too so must see what's in there

   Re:the old railway line. Haven't been up there for a long time but I know for certain that the bridge going over the road at an area called woodland has been taken down. You should still be able to go round and rejoin a bit further on though.

   We rode out along the railway a few weeks ago from the pub. I know that part of the ride - it's whether I can link it into the walna scar ride, or do anything else in the area. We're actually staying just outside KIrby in Furness it seems, a little father away from Broughton than I'd realised. Might be as easy to head up to Torver if we can't get to Broughton easily on the bike, especially as it means then riding another 5 miles to join the walna scar route

    Tbh if your based in Kirkby - in- furness you'd be better off taking the car to torver and beginning the route from there. As for visiting the prince of Wales pub the best way would be by train from Kirkby. It's only one stop further up and it's a really nice ride up the side of the duddon estuary. The pub is right opposite the station. Bloody hell,I'm getting all nostalgic now,makes me want to move back there........

    Thanks folks. Have dug out a few route maps for the south / south west lakes and found my v-graphics book which does indeed cover Dunnerdale and Blawith common. Grum, as bunnyhop says if you;re around it would be good to meet up. You know we're not going to be fast, I might even charge up the camera battery and we can do some photo stuff if weather allows?

    My mum lives in K-o-F, eating wise check out the Black sheep in Broughton Mills, the Dudden Valley is good for riding, but id go more central..

    I am by no means certain.............. but there is a possibility I may be in my house in Broughton on Friday evening through to Monday afternoon/evening, and I know the trails quite well. If I am, I'd do a night ride (1 to 2 hours) on Friday evening, somekind of day ride on Saturday BUT then on Sunday and Monday I am ( again possibly) taking a fairly slow rider round the area.... which is not to say I'm fast...at all!!!! I'm mid 50s!!

    If you mail your mobile number/contact number to.... billyboy.chapman@tiscali.co.uk ....before tomorrow evening I'll ring you if I am about. Or just mail me and I'll mail you back my number so you can ring me.

    If nothing else you could pop in. I've a few routes marked out on maps that you could borrow and I could talk you through them.
