I broke my seat-post last weekend. Snapped off just above the clamp, fortunately without harming my undercarriage.

It’s a 400mm 27.2mm (won’t name the brand because maybe I am to blame) running around with around 25mm left before being on the min. insertion point.
Now my question is, is it unrealistic to expect a seat-post to withstand my 87kg bouncing on it when I have so much post protruding?
It does looks a bit wrong (in my eyes) to have so much post length but I see from photos posted on here that it’s not so uncommon.

My ‘fix’ is to replace with a Thompson elite as they seem strong as hell based on past experience, but I notice they don’t even make a 400mm in the ‘lightweight’ Masterpiece design.
