Anyone else broken one of these ? I noticed today mine has cracked from the bolt hole outward, meaning also you cannot tighten the chain ring bolt fully as the bolt pulls through

£40 for a new poly bash guard 🙁

Not a Gamut but the exact same thing on my Blackspire. Decent ones should have a little metal sleeve to prevent this.
Also 🙁 , especially as mine disintegrated mid-ride, and I lost half my chainring bolts before I knew anything about it…

Doing the bolts up too tight (the torque values are hardly tight at all), or unevenly does this. Some cleaning agents (muc off IIRC?) can cause cracking too.

It’ll still work fine, as I say, bolt barely needs to be tight.

Not sure why it’s cracked , havnt tightens the bolts and don’t recall taking an impact on it , very strange

    Some cleaning agents

…and chain lubes according to numerous web reviews and even component manufacturers. Best not use the Prolink Progold freebies I got from from Bikefest on the bike I raced it on, given it’s fitted with a chain guide… 🙄

Mine did that too 🙁 I noticed it last winter, and remember a few days earlier only giving it only a small whack on a very cold day, which could have happened to you.

As its now cracked all the way through, it pinches the other 3 bolts and constantly creaks unless properly greased. You can pick up a FSA Polycarbonate Bash Guard 36T for ~£20, which looks pretty much the same as the gamut one.

I may grab one, but it works fine for now though.
