    Hi all,

I broke the carbon cage on my xtr mech at the weekend and have an old xt one and was wondering if it’s possible to use the ally cage from the xt mech on the xtr one?
Mechs are 972 and 772 respectively and are both long cages, jockey wheelspacing is identical.
I dismantled both mech’s but can’t see how to remove the threaded or pressed pin that attaches the cage to the mech pivot, has anyone done this?

    thanks,

    Andrew.

if i remember correctly, you could use the inner side of the cage (wheel side) but not the outer side as the outer on the xtr is bolted with a small allen bolt through the middle of the locating tube, (is hollow) i ‘think’ that the xt range still uses the small grub screw to rretain the outer part of the cage and the locating pin is solid as such??

if you have a look here you can see what i mean

the 972 cage bolts on from the outside (970 is form the inside of the pivoty bit)

    hope that helps??
