Being the over paranoid chap that I am (due to my mother dying when I was a young lad from BC) I was checking my wifes breasts, there are no lumps but when i pressed hard onto the wall of her rib cage if feels all bumpy (under her breasts) what are these bumps called ? I can never find the same ones twice if that makes sense. I have them if I press hard enough, she is due on in the next few days.

I guess we all have knobbly bits under our skin

What does breast cancer feel like ? (Just a general question)

Agree with getting things checked out professionally if you’re worried but, if she’s below 50, likely to be fibroadenosis:

If you’re concerned go to the GP, but breast feels lumpy, just like you described. Especially near period time.

don’t worry. but i’m no doctor so no arm in going to the GP.

I’m not a doctor, but I’ll have a feel if you want.

Ps. Breast cancer lumps are characteristically hard/firm and not squishy. You can’t “roll” them under the skin (they are tethered) and they don’t change much with the time of month. If she has skin changes or nipple discharge then that is worrying too. It’s more common in older women, those with a family history of breast/ovarian cancer, smokers and those on long term hormonal replacement (Pill or HRT). However, there are always those that don’t fit that pattern, including men.

DOI female doctor (but not a breast specialist)

…and the idea of you ‘checking’ for breast lumps yet not knowing what you’re feeling strikes me as a wee bit daft…

Men get breast cancer as well, we also suffer from hard lumps under our breasts, which may or may not be breast cancer, get checked if in doubt.

Go to GP with the mrs so they can tell you how to look/feel. It’s a great excuse but would worry if I actually found something myself

I found a lump once. Her, not me. Turned out to be a benign tumour. She was 21 (she’s 34 now!).

Go get checked. Be reassured. Move on. Be happy.

Was going to post something about at least you checked and have got advice sooner than a lot of women do.

But it’s probably not much comfort so I’ll just hope that further tests prove it’s nothing to worry about.

A GP will always refer you to a specialist if you tell them you have a lump. So don’t worry, the referral is standard.
I am sure it turns out to be all ok.

If SWMBO is anything like Mrs S a week before you’ll be told “LEAVE THEM ALONE”. 8)
