My mates got a pair of these wheels on his 2009 Trek 8500 hardtail, and it looks as if the freehub is playing up. Has anyone serviced the freehub on this model of wheel? Or is it a replacement job?

Its less than a year old, but it seems to be grabbing the chain everytime the pedalling tension is taken off. I think the peak grit may have killed it…

    Take apart, clean, regrease, test.

I can't find a service guide or anything anywhere on the net. Are they similar to DT hubs? Freehubs are the only bit I've not yet stripped on a bike…

If its the same as my Bonty race wheel I think you need to strip the hub, take out both bearings and then insert a large (maybe 13mm) and long allen key from the non-drive side to undo it.

I couldn't get the allen key so I just stripped it as far as I could then soaked the freehub in oil and left on its side overnight. Did the trick

Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a go.
