  • Boffins – OpenDNS / BT Homehub 4 / help me choose a router / or not ?

Following my previous thread on the subject of children and internet safety, the general consensus was that OpenDNS was a good idea. Seems this won’t work on the BT Homehub 4 as it won’t allow it’s DNS settings to be changed. I have found a workaround here http://punj-technology.blogspot.co.uk/2011/02/using-opendns-with-bt-homehub-broadband.html that suggests a cheap second router.

    1) Is that work around logical?
    2) Would I be better to just set up OpenDNS on her laptop?
    3) If 1) is the best option, will something like this do or will only certain routers let me change the DNS settings?
    4) Have I completely missed the point?

    Thanks

i’m probably missing some detail – but why not configure dns on the pc/ipads etc manually to open dns/ unless you have a lot of devices its pretty simple.

It’s only hers really, so even easier to do that. Thanks

Plus you gain from not having her log in as an admin (which you do to set up the DNS bit).

Ah yes, hadn’t thought of that
