    I bought my dad a “name on the fin” present for his last birthday, and have been keeping up to date with the blogs and wotnot since.

    They’ve posted up some fascinating vids, including this one about forging the wheels. Now, I had no idea how this would work, but I kinda expected a bit more than a hairy assed forklift operator turning a sodding great lump of Aluminium alloy over and over in a big scaffold!

    I think i mentioned before thats how they mde them on thrust ssc
    At the end of the runs the wheels were suffering from cracks around their perimeter they were little more than train wheels

    Does make you wonder if they could grow a single crystal big enuff

    Similar brakes to the ones on my race car, although mine are only 4 pot not 6 and don’t get anywhere near 10,000 rpm 😯

    The company i work for is one of Bloodhounds sponsors but I’ve never really taken much interest in the project before 😳 Just spent a fair bit of time on that website though so thanks for posting it up 8)

    Pretty amazing stuff – and even cooler to see my old design tech teacher from school in Luton is now the education liaison dude. Looking forward to catching up with him soon – knew he’d get involved with something awesome once he finished teaching wronguns how to use a file and a lathe…..

    The Chris Harris Drive episode is also worth a watch when they talk about the physics.

    9.45 and 12.45 are both a bit mind boggling and I wish I’d not have fallen asleep so much in fluid dynamics at uni.

    I really hope this goes well when it finally happens, I do worry though though because any failure will in an instant become catastrophic,

    I like the fact that they are pushing the boundaries but i do feel this is one which maybe doesn’t quite need pushing.

    these are only my feelings and i wish them luck and i hope they all return safely no matter what the outcome.

    All boundaries need ‘pushing’, otherwise science, and society, stagnates. Push things until they break, find out why they break, fix things, then push some more.
    You never know what will come out of the engineering and science behind this project that will benefit people and society further down the line; until you get there. 😀
