So, me and a bunch of London-based mates are heading out early September for a bivvy ride. Drive to somewhere first thing Sat, ride, bivvy, ride back, drive back – all in a weekend (kids/work/commitments).

But… where do we go? Within reasonable striking distance of the big smoke? Don’t want to do South Downs Way. But any ideas for maybe near Bristol/South Wales/midlands/peaks etc.? Any routes ideal for bivvying on or just suggestions of areas would be gratefully received!

My favourite is the Black mountains.

Bivvy near Llanthony priory and you can get mashed in their bar first before crawling out on to the hills to sleep in the wild.

STart from Llanbedr or Abergavenny. make routes up out of stuff on these:

(but dont assume yellow routes are rideable – they might be, but they are just routes Ive walked)

    Black mountains are great.
    Marlborough downs.
    Mendips.

yep with those choices I’d definitely be looking at somewhere in South Wales. Better hills = better views etc.
