Having spectacularly failed to make any plans to welcome in the New Year, I'm thinking of going biking in the Lakes. I assume a lot of it will be wet and soggy. Has anyone ridden the Altura trail recently? How muddy is it likely to be? Any other wet weather routes to recommend?
I quite fancy High Street at some point, but gather it is more of a summer route due to the bog.

Yes it is wet up here, the ground cannot soak any more up and you`ll find yourself riding through small streams all the time on the trails and any grassy stuff is totally waterlogged...... 
Just makes it hard work....... 
The Borrowdale Bash trails (in fact most up here) handle rain well. There'll be lots of surface water, but it's clean and not much mud. The Altura is oddly grippier when properly wet - there are lots of puddles, but it's fine. Tour of Skiddaw would be good - rode Skiddaw House to Mosedale yesterday and that's soft in parts though. The rocky based tracks/trails around Ambleside/grasmere/Coniston all hold up well.
The beer is, as ever, fine (blessed with many small breweries)
