Off to ride in Pila next summer and starting to look for somewhere to stay. There will be about 6 of us, normal look for some sort of villa/ appartment self catering. We like coming and going as we please, doing our own cooking etc.

Anyone got any recommendations on where to stay in Aosta/Pila

there will no doubt be lots of stuff there, check the web.

I stayed for a night in a crappy hotel last year on a road trip – but Pila itself is only really good for a days riding IMO, the DH tracks are very rutted, the Pila-Aosta freeride is the best part

    (been there 3 times btw)

Spent 2 days there last year. Loved every bit of it and could easy have spent longer, so much quieter than all the stuff in France (and a lot less power rangers hanging round instead of riding). The long ride all the way down to Asota is fantastic. There are also loads of other less advertised long trails that go from the top of the lift.

What Dasnut said. The DH tracks have a day in them at most. The freeride run though is great – a must do several times. Drive up the road to La Thuile for some great riding that has hardly anyone else on it. A lot of this is very natural, rooty and rocky and great fun. Went for a day last year and stayed longer. No braking bumps as no-one uses the place. It were cool mind, top lift had snow in July first day. Drive over the top to get to La Rossiere for more.

La Thuile got pretty chewed-up by the end of the season (the day or so of biblical amounts of rain in mid-July didn’t help) but still awesome. Really like it there, we take people over for a day most weeks.

Stay in Aosta – lovely town with loads of choice of accomodation. Pila dies at night (or it did in summer 2004).
