    I need to remove all the spokes from a wheel.

    How do I find out the type/size of spoke key I need without taking the wheel to the bike shop?

    Thanks peeps.

    I normally use one of these. No use however if you want to reuse the spokes.

    😀

    cheap wheel = red park (or yellow spokey IIRC)
    medium cheap wheel = green park
    hidh end wheel = black park (or red spokey IIRC)

    You can get cheap steel spoke keys with lots of different sizes…

    As they’re all under tension, I’d rather loosen them. Don’t want to possibly knacker my rim 😆 or my Rohloff.

    Pop the tyre off and use a screwdriver (but maybe not if it’s a tubeless rim!)?

    I use one of these -> http://www.parktool.com/products/detail.asp?cat=16&item=SW-7

    Maybe not as good as the 4 sided single spoke keys but have never damaged a nipple (oo-er) using it and would imagine it would need to be seized up pretty bad to round it off, or being ridiculously over tensioned!

    as cynic-al says, “BBB” do a 3-size one which stays permanently in my camelback, though I have the Park ones in my garage tool kit the BBB is good enough to use regularly.
