  • Bike video cameras – recommendations please!

Ok I’d like a video camera that can:
1 Go on bike or helmet
2 Give a reasonable frame rate and resolution (say a decent standard digital tv picture, not HD)
    3 Record sound reasonably.

Don’t need HD, don’t mind ordering from China or somewhere.
Probably prefer normal batteries in it if possible and the ability to change the memory card if possible.
    Don’t need a screen.

    Any ideas?

Go Pro Std version, although when you see the Diff Btw Std and HD, you’ll want the HD 🙂

Too much money really – even if I had the cash to get one I’d be afraid or wrecking £200+ of camera in one fall.
Thinking of some of the £50 ones on eBay.

I think you’ll find it hard breaking one of the gopros when its in its case. Watching some footage of a guy on a motorbike with one strapped to his head, doing a back flip and then landing on his head, whilst the camera continued to film sold it to me. I’ve since smashed them into rocks/trees/rivers and no damage done yet.
I also bought mine through pinkbike – got the HD gopro helmet mount one for £180 without having to pay import duty – just took a while longer than buying here.

Cheap cams on fleabay are rubbish (I speak from experience)

GoPro is the way to go – very strong. You’ll see them on loads of TV programs including Top Gear, Gadget Show, Mythbusters, etc. There’s a reason for it

    Go Pro here too. http://www.roughrideguide.co.uk/Go-Pro-Camera.html

As mentioned, you are not likely to break it. I use a chest mount mostly and that seems to keep it out of harms way.

Google Tachyon XC Micro £110 with an 8GB sd card and adaptor on Amazon. I just got one and seems real good. Plenty on the web about them and customer service support is very good

    Update.
Had a fault with my Tachyon where it would turn itself off after about 3 mins. I sent it back and was sent anew one without question, however this is exactly the same! Will now prob get a GoPro….

I use a Veho Muvi, its tiny and reasonable quality. the sound is shit though when on the bike due to wind, but i think you will find that with all cameras.

I’d stay away from anyhting sold on the dealxtreme website, which some of the same models for be found on Amazon and thief bay for around 20-60 squids. They are awful! You get a ton of image latentcy which causes a horrible ghosting effect when you turn. + exposures will be fooled by bright sky/dull forest floor = too bright or too dark. Dealxtreme prices allways look good until it goes wrong.

Buy cheap, buy twice, as they say.

    I’ve got this thing
    http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_1&products_id=110355
which is fine for recording commutes in case of an incident, but not really good enough for filming stuff to watch for fun.
