    While I piss away the morning waiting for a delivery, here’s a Q.

    What’s going on in with the 2 bikes compared below? Is the TCX SLR 1 overpriced, as CX bikes are ‘in’ thing at the moment, or is the Defy just really good value? As seems a bit odd you can get a full carbon, new design as well, framed bike with more or less the same components for only £100 more.

    Here’s the spec, and highlighted the differences. For the record, the TCX PX-2 wheels ship on the £1k Giant Roam, so doubt they are anything special.

    TCX has a thru axle fork.

    Defy bikes are really good value. I’m looking at a Defy 0 which as far as I can see is the only £1k bike from a big manufacturer to offer 11sp Ultegra.

    Wonder if this is just reflecting the true economies of carbon vs alu? Think we’ve long been charged premiums for carbon frames that aren’t in line with the difference in manufacturing costs.
