  • Best Method to fit full mudguard stays around a disc brake caliper?

I have a fork with the mounts and full wrap around mudguards.

Just can't fit around the caliper!

I thought of making a spacer and finding a longer bolt?

    Help appreciated (scratching head)

Bend & mount stay to one of the mounts (assuming IS)

I had this issue with a set of P2 forks. I cut one of the mudguard stays off, so that there's now only one stay (plus the bit under the headtube). I've been running it like this for 3 years……

You might just be able to make it out in this photo

Thanks guys and I see what you mean by the pic.

    I have these:

I guess one side (caliper side) I could cut the rod that gets in the way.

Aye – it should still be stable enough. I commute over Edinburghs potholed and cobbled streets like that and it's been fine.

Other option is just to fir a P-Clip to the fork (above the caliper), but getting a decent fit will depend on the shape of the fork.

If you only use 1 pair of fixings on the back, the guard can break, same may happen on the front. I'd bend it, can be done neatly.

Think I will try the P clip as I have oneleft over from other DIY.
I'd like to keep all the rods but I guess I could one off etc.

    Thanks again!

    Nice bike btw

I've recently put full guards on my Portland which has mudguards eyes about 1/3rd of the way up the inside of the forks. I just offered the stays up to the guard, marked them then spent 5 minutes with a hacksaw. Works just fine.
You could have the stays set up assymetrically with the caliper side fixed with a P-clip which will be fine as long as you've measured things correctly.
