He’s no Major Les Hiddins.

I’ve always wondered how he got (or gave himself?) the moniker ‘Bear’… he’s not exactly at all like one is he? If anything Mears is more bear-shaped, whereas Gyrlls is more kinda ‘weasel’ shaped…

Lofty Wiseman was always my favourite, his book is cracking as well.

Seriously though, Mears’ book is a real insight into his philosophy of being one with nature, and leaves me in awe of the determination and depth of his learning and accomplishment.

Mind you, I grew up reading Eddie McGee and watching Jack Hargreaves – I reckon old Jack would have beat them all 😀

I think it’s because his given name is Edward – Ted or Teddy is short for Edward, so Teddy Bear…
