My first full susser was one of these
1997 Scott Octane FX3. I thought it was the cat’s ass until I rode my 2005 FSR
My first experience was an old Scott too, possibly the model before that, although I didn’t own it but paid a pretty penny to hire one for a day in San Francisco, 24th September 1997 (can still remember the date), rode over golden gate bridge and despite intending to go straight back and around the park and streets I just headed off into the distance of Marin County, too far as it turned out, it was a very hot day, the gears wouldn’t drop to the granny ring and with no water or food I nearly died! I didn’t touch another full suspension bike until 2004!

I can tell from your photos that you rode across the Marin Headlands to Muir Beach. I applaud your ambition, a real ride on a bogus bike.

Charlie Kelly applauds my ambition!
Wow I’m not worthy, I need that quote either on a t-shirt or my gravestone!
Repack, I’ve a load more pics of that ride would love to map it out as I have no idea where I ended up, or how far I rode, (or who the guy that gave me directions back and life saving water was!)
