I played football, 7 a-side on a big pitch for 90mins, for the first time in about 6 months on Friday night. As usual, when I take such a big break from playing, my body took a hammering as it’s just not used to the stop/startyness of the game. Saturday day was ok, but by Saturday night/now I am stiffer than deadlydarcy in a Turkish bathhouse, and it hurts to walk.

    Soooooo.

Is it better to rest everything, or make sure you walk about and keep the blood flowing? Bearing in mind even the bottom of my feet hurt?

For the record, history has told me the best thing to stop this from happening again is to play more regularly, as running/cycling just ain’t not preparation.

To be fair, most of the injuries were from rolling around on the floor pretending I had been hurt.

cycling is good prep for he fitness side of it. But no, nothing prepares the legs for the stresses of football like football.
Playing tomorrow on 3G , i hate that stuff.

Apparently, our pitch is 5G. Very nice to play on, and can slide and not take your skin off.

The differences between 3G, 4G and 5G pitches are subtle. 3G pitches have the sand and rubber compound particles, 4G have no particles but a rubber shock pad underlay. 5G pitches have fully rubber particles to provide the correct bounce the artificial surface needs.

I can confirm, yes, he does stretch.

EDIT: only a bit though. But it’s as much as needed.

    Jamie, you do stretch?

A little bit, as was running late, but it really is one of those things where doing the thing makes it easier next time.

Cool down, stretch, refuel and compression clothing can help.

Can you ride? Really easy gentle spin should help, or foam roller? Salt baths good too. Otherwise massage from
    Deadlydarcy? 🙂

+1 for foam roller. Assuming MTFU is out of your reach 😉
