…sore/swollen elbow for a few days, thought nothing of it, went to chemist this morning to buy appropriate cream, chemist asked to have a look, she said go to your GP as it’s infected.

Saw GP, Clarithromycin for a week!

Think I may have got scratched by our cat, it’s bloody painful now, taken anti inflammatory now.

    Moan over !

With no pics this post is about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

The rules clearly state that any posts pertaining to infections/amputations or other such issues are to be accompanied by pictures.

You should be fine, the one time I wasn’t wearing my leatt moto gloves with the nice gel armour on the pinkie fingers, I came off….scratched said pinkie finger and my entire arm swelled up. I thought it was an over training injury to begin with, by the time I realised it was an infection and booked to see a quack it had subsided!

Make sure you take your antibiotics as described – and finish the course.

Look after it. Keep it elevated and alternate ice/warm as well. I did mine back in 2004 – landed me in hospital for 4 days on i-v flucloxacillin, followed by several days on further antibiotics. AFAIK its a sack of fluid in the joint that gets infected. Frikking scary shit at the time (some of the possible outcomes discussed were not pleasant) but thankfully all was well in the end. Reckon mine was from crawling under the car.

Errr… maybe I shouldn’t tell you about a mate of mine who was a farmer.

But I will. He had a scratch on his arm that got infected & he ended up in ICU with some kind of infection (sepsis/septicaemia/blood poisoning or whatever it was)

    You’ll be reet, I’m sure.

You’ve started anti-biotics the chances of you getting septicaemia now are massively reduced.

Same here – ended up on IV antibiotics after a cursory visit to the GP,
Go straight to hospital, do not pass go, do not collect £200
I was in 3 days during which time John Smith (former labour leader) died.

just got home 1.55am from A&e

My neighbour started her shift at 8pm (she’s a doc at the hospital) , waited for 2 hrs had bloods taken then at 10.30 my neighbour came out and called me in had a quick chat with her then was seen by specialist doc who examined me , bloods okay, arm infection, 2 hrs of antibiotics through a cannula and have to go back for the next 3 days for the same treatment…cannula still in me, said no point in taking it out.

a lot went through my head this evening !!!!

all i can say is a massive thank you to all your advice, I’m absolutely fried in the head , woke my boys up and gave them massive hugs…

NYE party is a right off !!!!

Thank you NHS (London) for an amazing service

    You’ll be right mate.

The odd scare in life is an eye opener though isn’t it?

On a lighter note, I’m sure you watch The Walking Dead?…

So if you start to “turn” do the decent thing and and take a baseball bat to your noggin asap! Lol 😉

    Get well soon fella. 🙂

Another issue with joint infections is that they can be erosive, so there is always concern as you don’t want any permanent damage, do as they say…

    Glad it’s being treated..

If/when antibiotic resistance becomes a huge problem, these sorts of simple conditions are the ones that are going to be wiping out most of the nation!

Poopscoop is spot on: a proper scare in life really makes you take stock.

I’m pleased you went & got sorted Geezer. My mate ignored it (cos that’s what he thought farmers did, just too much to do) & ended up being very ill indeed.

Got a call this morning from the hospital to come in for 11am for another injection.
Have to return this eve at 11pm for another one, same again tomorrow.

Sorry to keep posting- can’t take my anxieties out at home too much for my wife and children.

Not thinking straight as shattered so I’m aware my thought process is warped.

    Thanks once again all

Surprised they haven’t admitted you to be honest, so that’s a plus, though seemingly a bit of a PITA…rm

    don’t panic ufg

if they were really worried about you, you’d be an in-patient

Have they been getting the marker pen out and drawing lines on you ?

Are the lines inside or outside the previous ones ? 😉
