I noticed a crack in the magnesium crown of my Pace RC31 XL forks, no idea how long it has been there as the bike doesn’t get washed too often but i obviously haven’t ridden on them since i discovered it.

    Is it weldable?

In these thread usually there is room for debate but I doubt you’ll find anyone saying anything other than bin in this one!

    Even I wouldn’t ride/repair that.

    Young enough for a warranty?

Put a jubilee clip around the cracked part to stop it spreading.
    You’ll be fine.

Oh, and wear a helmet cam and post up the video. 😉

Gorilla Tape and a couple of zipties should sort it.

I’d weld it. A nice fork crown shaped weld should do it.

Maybe you could make them into a pimped carbon fibre wheel truing jig, assuming they have some rigidity left in them.

Landfill…unless you would like to hang them from your wall and start an impromptu shrine for broken bike parts. Which is probably what I’d do.

I seem to remember from school that magnesium burns in an exciting way, might be the best thing for them. 🙂

Could you mod them to make a wheel truing/building stand?

You could make a nice decorative candelabra from them ,attract some sort of base to the cut down steerer tube, cut off the dropouts insert candles et voila!

They’re second hand, came on a bike I bought from the classifieds on here about 9 months ago. I have already replaced them with some cheap Rockshox Recons, I just had a second thought when holding them over the wheelie bin but that’s where they are going now.

I’m just lucky I discovered the crack, they’re on my winter SS/Dog walking bike for short blasts around Haldon and Woodbury so it’s normally covered with an inch of mud.

    Cheers guys.
