It is 'Apple' isn't it? The website is apple.com anyway.

Mac is simply a shortened version of Macintosh which is the model line.

So when people write MAC they are doing it wrong.

Apple only ever seem to use Mac in their marketing material but the hard drive is still called 'Macintosh HD'. I suppose it is easier to use Mac all the time in product descriptions though.

But your computer is a Powerbook or whatever, is it not? Is that Apple Macintosh Powerbook then fully?

Mac is the type of computer like Windows PC. Macs run Mac OSX as the OS and all current models contain Mac in the name, ie MacBook, Mac Pro etc.

Current product names are MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Pro, Mac mini. Operating system is Mac OSX.

Apple certainly seem to use "Mac" all the time in their bumph… and never MAC which is an ID for a network card or router or whatever.

Mac is just short for Macintosh, same as PC is just short for Personal Computer.

Macintosh is not defunct, it's just that popular culture stopped referring to the full name merely calling them Macs, so it seemed that Apple pretty much followed suit themselves.

    Heh! 😉

Slightly steering away for a moment; few years ago, one of my flatmates got a new iMac. He'd had it less than a couple of weeks, when he asked me to have a look at it, because it was 'running a bit slow'. So, I gave it a go.

Oh, it might have something to do with the 80 GIGS OF PRON you've got on your hard-drive (100GB total).

80 Gigs!!!! In just a few days! It explained why the rest of us had experienced such slow internets; the dirty little bugger had been setting it to download torrents of filth all the time! And this was before better quality video streams, so it must have been mainly pics and low-quality vids! 😯

I think he had a bit of an Oedipal 'issue', judging by what I saw. Dear oh dear. I'm surprised our ISP didn't cut us off, tbh. He was completely unrepentant, and I had to fiddle about with the router settings to limit his downloads.

80 Gigs, Sweet Mother of Jesus…

    80Gigs in a few days!!! 😯

That's mighty impressive… That'd take me at least a couple of months with my slow connection! 😉
