    I really ought to save the Vert-Pros on my Pace 303 as I’m spending most of my time on Tarmac/hardpack, with just the occasional slither down a muddy bank or stairs. Can I put non-UST tyres on Mavic 819 rims, with tubes, and what would you the cognoscenti recommend?

    You can fit a normal tyre with tubes on 819s. Not sure about what tyre though, maybe something light and fast rolling like a Schwalbe Racing Ralph
