    Whats the deal then?

Allows you to take up the slack of a chain for a SS/Fixed conversion in a regular dropout frame.

Do i need to use a WI sprocket?

No – any freewheel should do.

Do i need to use a screw-on freewheel?

    Yes

Do they slip under heavy force?

Can do. I used one in Ritchey dropouts. The curved profile of the dropout was not flat enough to adequately tighten up the bolts 🙁
