Eldest didn’t get allocated the secondary school we or she wanted. Looking to appeal but just wondered if anyone had done the same and been successful? If so on what grounds did you appeal?

I’ll answer mainly to give you a bump, rather to share me expert advice. But I am a teacher.

At the risk of stating the obvious you need to find a good reason for your appeal. For example My child plays a musical instrument and wanted to go to the school with arts specialism/ music gcse etc

    Worth a read

Finally if it all fails then remember that the differences between schools is dwarfed by the differences between teachers and that the influence of teachers on results is less than the students prior attainment

We thought that a full appeal process would be needed for my son.

As it happened, we got a place on reallocation – my experience was that lots of people moaned about their allocation, but did nothing about it.

Not sure how lucky we were but the process for us was really easy and we managed to get my daughter in the same school this year on the sibling rule!

    Best of luck OP!

Get on the waiting list sharpish. My daughter wasn’t allocated our school of choice but we went on the list and she was allocated a place during the summer holidays, when parents have to either accept or decline an offer, despite our being ten miles away and other good schools being nearer.
    It’s a bit of a merry go round…

We appealed on the grounds of a specialisation and failed.

(officially we passed though……. we appealed and were rejected but due to substantial oversubscription / high birth year the school put on an extra class which then meant we were granted the place in the end. Which we knew was going to happen anyway, but you had to appeal because appellants were then prioritised higher)

Pointless waste of people’s time, but at least process was followed 🙄

We did but it was 15 or more years ago. The process then was very adversarial.
