Got the snip booked in for November and just got the paperwork saying I've got to be off the bike for 4 weeks!! I'd almost rather risk the chance of another child.
Anyway - I'm assuming a few others on here have had it done so just wondering what your experiences of the recovery are and if you have any tips to help with making it better sooner.
Thinking regular massages might help.
Piece of cake, the waiting room banter is priceless....
Just had it done.
For a couple of weeks you feel a bit bruised so you won't want to ride.
I'm getting back on the saddle tomorrow for the first time after 3 weeks.
It's an odd little op. Neddle in the nuts twice isn't nice but you should only need to have the op done once.
Be prepared for the surgeon to have a rummage during your consultancy. No-one told me that so it came as a slight shock.
Oh, leave your pride at the door. There's no way of feeling cool when it's being done :O)
Jockstraps are bloody uncomfortable to sleep in. I lasted 2 days before resorting to tight boxers. The main issue is where you shave is exactly where the JS holds you so the new growth gets irritated.
Tim
I didn't have to shave, the (female) nurse did a quick once over. Really nothing to worry about get it done. But milk the post op sympathy for all it's worth 😉
Not nearly as bad as you expect.
One bit of advise I was given was to clear the pipes with 24hrs .. bit nerve wracking with the little fella being all beat up .. but had no problems afterwards.
Only problems I have heard of are both from guys who were too scared to chance their arm at clearing the pipes ... both had rather bad infections and experiences from the snip ...
mooman - wasn't told that. But I did feel the need to check that "it still worked" if you catch my drift.
I was back on the bike exactly ten days after the op without any problem, although that was on the road bike.
Had it done, was fine back on the bike in about 10 days (didnt want to risk it any earlier having taken the dog for a walk when I got back home from having it done and only making it 200 metres before turning back in tatters).
My main advice is do the icing the nads every hour for 15-20 minutes over the first 24 hours- I had minimal bruising or swelling despite my stupidity of attempting that walk.
Op was fine. Pre- was a bit galling, being called into the anteroom, told to strip from the waist down ("but leave your socks on, the floor's cold") and then called into the main room is an experience. But the next bit's the worst; the nurse laid a sheet over my nethers and then pulled the family heirlooms through a hole in it. And then painted them (I think with a brush) with antiseptic. After this ignominy, they could have done what they wanted as long as it was a/ fast; b/ didn't include eye contact.
As it was, it was fast, needle in the nuts and a slight tugging but no pain.
Post - nothing ibuprofen couldn't handle. I was off the bike for 4 weeks in total as I got an infection in the wound so needed a clean out after 2 weeks and then restart the healing, and a damp sweaty chamois is apparently not a great location for infection avoidance.
Overall - bearable but wouldn't like it done twice, but the end results and the ability to paddle at will without your wellies on is not to be underated.
Absolute doddle. According to Dr Contractor, my vasectomy was 'beautiful'
A supernova of pain
Nothing to worry about 🙂
As above, comedy banter can be priceless and, as posted in previous replies to this question, having the doctor confirming 'yes, please, white with one' when a nurse popped her head in the door to say she was putting the kettle on, all whilst brandishing sharp instruments around the old fella, was a touch random!
Got my own back by asking to see what he'd removed, his bemused look was followed by the dangling of 30-40mm piece of what looked like overcooked spaghetti... 😉
Pre op was all good banter, then a very camp male nurse, surgeon was a clumsy sod on no2 ,told him i still had feeling down there so stuck needle back in wth gusto.
So bruised one side more than other.
had 3 days off work as butcher then tried to be clever n carry a hind qtr of beef , but tea n sympathy of bosses wife was worth it .
Back on bike within 2 weeks.
all that was 8 years ago now .
Nope and not getting it done either.
Macavalanche two weeks after mine. Wish I had taken the stitches out earlier than three weeks as that was the only bit of real discomfort as they had grown in rather than disintegrated as they were meant to.
"4 weeks off the bike"
"3 days off work"
Nonces!
Had mine done Monday lunch, m/c to work Wednesday.
Biggest laugh was that when they told me to shave, I did. The lot. 🙂
Doctor asked whether I was normally 'bald', seems you only need to shave a bit around the 'sack'...
WIfey had me and the dog done in the same week 😯
No problems with me but the dog it made him worse, he use to hump her pillow all the time, we'd come home and find it in his basket and he'd be sat there with a sly look on his face 😆 use to crease me up but wifey has no sense of humour use to really p*$$ her off.
Bloody awfull, first side 6 minutes all ok, then the Doc found my ...ahem...sensitive side :-0
50 minutes later all done.
The swelling, oh the swelling!
Girl at work:- "is that padding then?"
Me "nope"
Girl at work "ooooooohh" with glint in her eye ;-))
And yeah, first time "Kirby Carrot" gets angry is real weird especially the first "morning glory" the day after the op.
Strange subject for first post...hello all
So basically just man up and I'll be fine.
All fine, except my Doc was fast, so fast he started the second cut before the anesthetic had fully taken effect. Oh and being told to have a "Jimmy" before you leave the hospital was a bit worrying
Leave em alone, it just ain't right...
Don't do this just after an unplanned baby. Wait a year, just in case. 🙁
Wow! Seems like some of you had a really complicated procedure.
Took all of 10 minutes.
No shaving.
No "pipe cleaning".
No bruising/swelling/discomfort.
I was back at work next day and out riding in 3/4 days.
By far the worst bit was the sound of the cutting., so take a MP3 player if you want to be oblivious to the whole thing.
Sooo with the vasectomy reversal success rate as low 55%, what are you going to do if you get divorced and your new bird wants a family?
Just say "no - I already decided I didn't want any (more) children"?
You might change your mind. What's so bad about abortions? 😈
I have had two and done my time with children, I don't need to do it all again. Perfection is hard to surpass 😉
A mate at work had his done in the morning, and, despite being warned to take it easy for the rest of the day, felt OK so he dug the garden in the afternoon. Result, two (black) nuts the size of oranges and two weeks off work.
Mine was no bother, I had a general which left me feeling a bit liverish, but I didn't fancy watching. You'll know when you're ready for the bike.
For me driving was much worse, with all my bits hanging in limbo. I had a jumbo car sponge cut in half to rest my balls on.hahhahha but my car did have sports suspension at the time.
never has a thread had me wince so much
FFSWIfey had me and the dog done in the same week
I've worked on a farm where we sorted the bullocks with an elastic band and a couple of bricks.
Happy to help 🙂
Got the snip 3 years ago now...became a 'Jew' at the same time...the repercussions of the snip didnt even register compared to that bit... 😯
As with Sweepy, think of the 'long' game...you'll know when your ready to 'ride' 😉
I was back on the bike exactly ten days after the op without any problem
+1
The waiting room is, indeed, an experience all men should have. There wasn't a single fella there that didn't need to have his BP taken at least twice because it was "a bit high" the first time 🙂
The benefit of tight undies cannot be over-stated btw.

Q. "Doesn't that hurt?"
A. "Only if you get your thumbs caught between the bricks!"
Don't try and move a dishwasher during a plumbing emergency 4 days afterwards unless you want your gonads to ache for 6 months
other than that no problem
Oh god, i feel sick as a dog now after reading this thread. I would love to have it done so my poor mrs doesnt have to have the implant thing she has now etc. However i have a fear of blood tests so god knows how i would react to all of the above events described, last blood test i had i nearly fell unconcious AFTER he had finished whilst he was chatting to me, oh the shame of being wheeled out in a chair past the full waiting room of pensioners stifling their smirks.
Can it be done under a general aneasthetic?
Yes it can.
...and MTFU. 😉
MTFU 😆
Its weird i am not scared of needles or injections, i have a number of tattoos too. Its just whenever i have a blood test i react badly and go all faint or in the case of the last one actually nearly unconcious and its always at the end of the test??!!??. Strange. Especially bad are the fasting prior blood tests.
Best bit of advice I had wear two pairs of budgie smugglers nice tight snug fit for a couple of days afterwards. Give them full support and you will be fine.
Lying back on the bed when the two nurses are messing with your nether regions cold antiseptic etc you can only imagine what they are jesturing to each other. Its the only time I realised my eyelids were connected to my knackers as the pull on the one side didnt half have an effect on the wince mechanism.
Mine was fine.
Didn't take long and had a chat with the doc doing it about gap jumps, manuals, berms and other bike related tomfoolery whilst he was hacking away!
Very, very nearly went out on the bike the very same evening, but thought better of it. Back to work the next day - and that involved riding the Brompton 4 times and 2 train journeys (no eupahmisms!).
Worst bit is rolling up to the pathology lab with your post op specimen and handing it over to the nice young dolly bird at reception 😳
post op specimen? They remove bits?
i just thought they dabbed your pipes with a soldering iron
Mattk it's a check for live swimmers in your production efforts! If you're lucky your SO gives you "a hand" with it!
had mine, then had a gig on the evening, was a bit sore tho. the worst part is the doctor having a rummage before the needle goes in, i nearly hit him! and taking a sample in afterwards for the all clear, to a crowded waiting room, to be faced with a huge notice saying "if you have a semen sample please pick up the red phone and say "i've got a semen sample"! we split up soon after tho...
Guessing I'll be taking it easy initially to help the healing.
Thanks for everyones input 🙂 even your's IHN 😉 when we riding next anyway?
