I have picked up my first 1/8th RC today from the excellent guys at St Albans Hobbystores, I gave it a run around the car park, but looking forward to giving it it’s first proper run tomorrow, 4x 4s Lipo batteries are waiting, I can’t believe I’m this excited about a toy car! 🙂

    What you got?

    Cheers.

I don’t, but the office I’m at currently has a model shop just around the corner, which I frequently pass and find myself looking in the window at the RC cars…but then, as a kid, RC hovercraft spelled the future.

    Enjoy it!

I have an old Hyper 7, but some over enthuastic revving from cold had it snap the conrod

    it’s a inch long and it’s 50 quid! 😯

I enjoy building RC cars more than I do actually driving them; I’m okay at the former and sh1t at the latter… not 1/8 – 1/10. Built up a cheap Ansmann a few summers ago and then it got expensive from then on!

Of all the cars I’ve built the crawlers have been the most fun. I’ve spent got know how much over the past couple of years, money I could have obviously saved or spent far more constructively.

Cleared out all my rc stuff a couple years ago but now getting excited by rockcrawlers and the scale 4x4s.

I am sure within a year I will be mulling over scale pick axes and authentic mud terrain tread patterns

I had a Tamia escort cossie back in the day..
Got some money unexpectedly and spent a whack of it on that- £200 which back in the day was a fair amount!
Lost it at some point years ago- loved it- was great fun..

Great to hear I’m not alone, but mine will live by the sword, If I don’t break it I reckon I’m not having enough fun 🙂

Have had loads of cars over the years, and some ‘copters. Work/other hobbies get in the way so I have always ended up selling them. I still have a little Thunder Tiger ST 2 truck though but that hasn’t been used in a year either! Must get some new batteries for it when the weather drys up.

After reading a thread a few months ago on here I got a hpi firestorm stadium truck. Have since skunked money on brushless motor and esc upgrade and lipo packs etc. have a set of tyres to replace and the wife comments I break something after every run. Great fun though.

I have a Tarmac race track locally that only I seem to use and a couple of bmx tracks for fun. No race scene around here unfortunately

@ 2unfit2ride ……. did electric cars 30 yrs ago and even with the invent of lipo and brushless etc ….. its still electric …. 10 mins max and ur flat !!
Get ur self a proper power source and feel the power :)..
whatever you run /race .. enjoy it ….. i did all through my childhood , kind of a family thing , i raced boats for many yrs before moving to my first electric buggy …. a tamiya holiday buggy !! … followed by a sand scorcher 🙂 …. happy times 😀
my brother still races 1/8 buggies and hes in his 50s …… still turn up now and then at the races and run a heat or 2 for him …… its usually his fastest run of the day !

That’s what I love about crawling; with lipo and brushed motors you’re into well over an hour of run time! This was my first crawler (still have it… sort of) and a video someone else made summer before last:

I used to have a Hyper 7 but managed to break something every time I used it, usually at great expense. R/C is one hobby that makes mountain biking look like good value for money!

Can we stop this thread now please-I’m way too busy getting the hang of Helicopters & its’ just another distraction that I can’t stop looking at!
