I don’t know whether it’s me, my laptop or Google itself, but whenever i try to use it – i.e. typing something into the searchbar – it first tries to pre-empt what i’m attempting to type and then not responding to the typed commands, not allowing me to input characters etc.

No other website is affected, just bloody Google 👿

I had some similar issues. It was another add on interfering with the google one. I uninstalled things one at a time(tools > manage add-ons) until it sped back up. It ended up that I had 2 google add-ons that were interfering with each other I think.

That’s for IE by the way. It was always find in firefox which was how I knew it was the program rather than computer.
