We have just given a home to a lovely cat, very friendly and seems to have taken to us pretty quickly

Due to an acident last year he lost a rear leg and wondered if anyone else has a three legged moggy

Doesn't seem to bother him much and as he is only two hopefully he has a long life ahead of him.
Has to sit down to use his scratching post, but can jump up reasonably well and speeds about in his own gimpy way.
Does seem to need a bit more of a sit down than other cats we have had, not surprising though because it must be quite tiring

Been told we have to watch his weight for obvious reasons, but is there anything else we need to be watchful of

There's one I see in my garden a lot with its 4-legged sibling (or one that looks just like it anyway). Seems to get about and generally manage alright.

We've had two over the last few years.

Both of ours coped really well with it and just carried on as normal. They adapted very quickly indeed and led normal happy lives for a good few years

George lost his leg after he was shot and within a week of having the surgery was back catching rats again. He was put down on Christmas Eve last year due to massive internal system failure, but he was 15.

However a cat belonging to a friend of ours had its leg taken off and didnt last more than a week due to it being so immensely overweight. It simply couldnt cope with 3 limbs and an enormous bulk to haul around.

Hopefully yours will go on to lead a really happy and fairly normal life 😀

I think they just get on with it, they've not got the capacity to agonise about it.

He has been in and out today for grub, apparently a diet of the dry food is best for the weight watching.

Only problem is that a Blackbird has taken a liking to the biscuits and comes into the kitchen to nick them from the cats bowl

Yup, we had one; we had him put to sleep a couple of months ago – reckon he was sixteen or so. He had a good life, but had thyroid problems and we knew his time with is had come.

My next door neighbour has a three legged moggy..a couple of years ago, whilst it's owner was on holiday.. the poor thing had a bad accident , nobody knows exactly what happened to it.. but luckily for him the person who was looking after it, provisionally paid the vet bill.. unfortunately it lost one of it's front legs.. but amazingly it made a good recovery and gets about fine.. I built a series of wooden shelves below the neighbours window so it can get up to the cat flap… they can be hardy creatures

Met a bloke whos first pet was a three legged cat, his porn star name was Tripod King.

I used to see one on my way to work – it seemed happy and was quite old when it 'disappeared' though it may just have moved rather than died as several houses were up for sale there. It had very long hair so you did not realise a let was missing until it hopped.

A friend knows one and apparently its an excellent hunter.

As long as it's not Iams – that stuff is like smack for cats, but with calories. Our cat is slim and muscly, and regulates his food very well, unless you buy Iams in which case he stuffs his face with every last morsel and harasses you for more so much that you just have no choice – physical restraint not being an option. And he gains weight consequently.

Did you see that programme on the other day about the cat that had lost both rear feet, and a pioneering vet made prosthetics? They snapped onto an attachment embedded in his bones, and as soon as they fitted them he just got up and walked off like normal.

Saw that about the bionic cat, don't think I will be weighing in for any of that lark though

My moggy has biscuits called Mr Wellbeloved, came with a complete starter kit including sack of grub, posh bed, bowls, brushes, scratching post and toys
Owner was moving abroad and couldn't take him with her, seems to be settling in well

Thanks for the warning, will make sure he doesn't have Iams then, had enough of my kid going hyper on cheesy wotsits when she was a nipper
