Looking to get a new tv. Looking at a 40″ Samsung LED model, ends in no 5520, for £499. Just wondered if the SmartTV thing is worth the £100 over the non Smart model. Samsung do a Blu-Ray player with Smart built in for £130. Would that be a better idea ? Any advice very gratefully received. Not interested in 3D.

i have the bluray Smart tv. i dont really use it to be honest. you will need a hard wired ethernet cable to get good download speeds. lovefilm is available and i think bbc iplayer was coming. so worth £100? probably not. bluray player for net cost of £20? probably.

caveat: processing on the bluray player is slooooooow. if the tv is fast, i might be more convinced.

Well I have the 5520 + a Samsung PVR & the BBC iplayer is superb even in HD use the smart bit quite a lot TBH
