I’m working my way through the Fabric mix series – house music is growing on me… slowly.

The Boiler Room sets are usually very very good. The Bonobo one in particular is a favourite of mine.

DJ EZ’s Boiler Room set is insane!

The mixing on this set isn’t the best but that’s mainly due to the fact Laurent Garnier isn’t a CDJ DJ but still, track selection is spot on and he keeps the crowd loving it. That’s what makes you a top DJ.

47 years old and still hammering the scene. Love it.

    I wish I could afford a set-up. Haven’t mixed for a while now.

xiphon it definitely is. I’ve seen him a few times, most recently at ‘Boilerhouse’ in Bradford.

    Always amazes the dancefloor.

Mixing on CDJs should be simple compared to vinyl – it displays (an accurate) BPM on the screen! Especially if the tunes have been processed through Traktor before hand for analysis.

If you want to watch a true master on CDJs, Carl Cox is the one to watch…

I’d have to say James Zabiela is the master of all things digital. Not to everyones taste but my god.

Seen him at WHP and he’s just a bit talented.

Not everything he tried works well but you’ll never see a DJ with a smile as big as James while he’s playing.

I love House but my first love is Bassline/Speed Garage. I miss those days. Danny Bond, Joe Q, Phat Fingerz, Paul Sirrell, Big Ang, Shaun Banger Scott to name a few.

The older/cheaper ones didn’t but the CDJ2000 I used to use did. First generation it had a bmp to nearest beat, then later firmware had an exact reading to the decimal point. I did get easily confused though so you still had to rely on your ears. The new Nexus CDJS have a sync button on them too….

Aye, there’s a video of DJ EZ doing a demo for Pioneer at BPM I think and you can hear one of the guys say to him about the sync button.

EZ laughs and says he doesn’t sync and then belts a set out ha.

I’ve just…er… downloaded a massive “Naughty but Niche” CD pack. Loving the funky 4×4/bassline tunes!

James Lavelle at a club in Leicester 3 or 4 years was pretty cool. There were about 40 people there so it was like having him play in your living room. Not sure it was the best in 20 years of raving / clubbing but it is up there in the top few.

Good lad, It was all about the Danny Bond, Joe Q and Shaun Banger Scott CD’s for me.

    I have a nice collection.

Danny Bond 1 – 40 and 5 CD Packs, The mixes cost me £10 each back in the day from The Disc in Bradford.

Got all the Joe Q mixes too. All original, not from the market haha.

Oh, Fabio and LTJ Bukem when they played Swerve on a Wednesday night at The End. Some very cool drum and bass, again to a small crowd in the bar area. A great way to spend a midweek evening.

I went to a festival in Goa, India called Sunburn back in 2009.

Roger Sanchez was playing and an Indian DJ called Pearl, She was quality!

The best night I’ve had though was probably 10 Years of Bassline at Boilerhouse in Bradford.

When Danny Bond came on, could feel the floor flexing up and down.

Andy C – 4 deck vinyl 4hr set. Mind blowing watching him queue up and triple-drop tunes….

Plus the VIP access was a bonus (knowing people was useful in London!)

I was a weekly regular there, from 2007 – 2010 (when I moved out of London). Mid week boogie to let your hair down…

Usually arrived around 11pm to meet a mate (again, a regular – he’s the one with a walking stick…), left at closing time….. went to work for 9am!

I used to love my Thursday nights out at Love Apple and Vampire in Bradford, straight to work in the morning after a McDonald’s.

Tried it a few month ago, I didn’t go to work that day haha.

Not deep/tech but Jeff Mills at Atomic Jam in ’97 it still a stand out for me, though for consistancy it would have to be Surgeon. Too many good sets have I seen by him over the years though this one below is a really good example of his versatility

Some great mixes about courtesy of Boilerroom

If you can ignore the edited out ad breaks, one of my fave mix from last year is a Ryan Davis guest mix from 17th May Transitions radio show.
