I’m having an extension built and had a message left by the electrician to say I have high PME reading (over 50 when it should be 0.35?) and I needed to call the electricity board.

I spoke to the board and they say they don’t have an earth at that property.

The property is 80 years old, has been rewired in the past but is it possible it doesn’t have a functioning earth?

Probably an earth stake somewhere. If so a reading of 50ohms is fine. If you have a PME terminal you should be able to see it next to the head where the mains come in.

I’m probably talking total rubbish here but I had a similar issue which involved the Electricty Board upgrading the feed coming into my house (which was done for free but did take around 18 months to organise!!).
