My wife is Basque and passed the Basque fluency exam at 16. Having lived in England for over 16 years, she feels that she is loosing her first language.

    Anyone about who can help?

Is there a uni that imports students? There are plenty of language schools in the area, might be worth a look.

I wouldn’t if I were you – her Dad works with local Special Forces. Their dog had plastic bullets as a toy.

Her parents don’t speak basque as it was banned by Franco. My wife went to an illegal Basque language school – until the hijo de puta died and then they were free to speak whatever they liked.

I’ve got some Mordaunt Short speakers in Stafford. Does that help?

They have to deal with ETA, the spanish version of the IRA. I would not want to get on the wrong side of her dad.

In all seriousness, ask at the university language department, or try the local tapas bars

No idea if they speak Basque but El Rincon on Nort St maybe worth asking in as lots of the Spanish community hang out there.

I don’t think ETA would appreciate you talking about them being a spanish version of anything.
A sizeable chunk of the Basque Country is in France.

Apparently, about a third of the Basque speaking region :

I thought a Basque Separatist was someone who liked relieving ladies of particular undergarments…..

    ….until I discovered Smirnoff.

Sorry. In poor taste, probbly sexist and culturally insensitive and that. 😳
