I’ve got a 12v mp3 player and a 12v amp. When I run them from the same 12v power supply with a splitter I get a lot of noise through the speakers. If I use two power supplies, one for each, the noise is gone. It is a cheap power splitter cable. I’d much prefer to just have one supply. Is there an easy way to get rid of the noise?

So – 240v power supplies to 12v DC?

Is the noise a loud low freq hum or something else?

Are both power supplies (the original ones for each device) and are both / either earthed types?

Yes 240 to 12v DC supplies. Tried a cheap one and an expensive one, neither are original. I’ve tried it with earthed and unearthed supplies with the same result. Noise from one with splitter, no noise from two whether supplies earthed or not

I’ve always disconnected the ground in the plug in these circumstances. I’m not entirely sure it’s safe though so don’t recommend it. Anyone know?

Most other countries don’t have a ground in the plug do they?

They do just not always as a pin, or the pin is in the socket.
