Complimentary to the other one today.

What folding bike for plane transport then reasonable riding at the other end? So it should go down to suitcase-ish size and be good enough for multi-hour pleasure rides. Doesn’t have to fold fast or anything.

Am thinking maybe Dahon or even a normal road bike with a split frame. Possibly a hybrid, to allow light off-road for flexibility.

Mezzo would be my pick if you don’t need a really small fold. If you need the fold more, Brompton is the only way.

Mezzos ride really well for a folder, IMO. Especially the bling version!

Mezzo still has small wheels tho.. would you really ride one for fun for three hours?

I was thinking along these lines, but folk have said bad things about Dahon.

Oh, you’d have to go a long way to beat this surely?

    Apparently, it folds! 22.6lbs!

Omg, surely Brompton should just pack up and go home now…

What about that folding mtb that has tensioned wire for a downtube..it was designed for army parachutists, but i cant quite remember the name of it..sorry

Montague seem like a brand worth investigating though – I like their fold.

Anything you like with S&S couplings:

Wow, a bike even uglier than a Klein or Maverick.

Simong – any experience with those? Tempting. I suppose it has to be something with round tubes tho eh?

Ah , but that top tube is a tool box, packed full of handy Swiss gadgets.

That Dahon MTB is a Ritchey design I think. Airnimals pack down pretty good for shipping but ride quite well.

This is what you really need

It packs down fairly well as stndards baggage for flying with and rides like a normal bike (is a full sus tandem normal?). Not me in the piccys by the way but it is our bike.

I was simply considering what I’d do if I had to travel away for a week at a time… a decent folder or packer would be useful.

    Molgrips,

See my link. If that can cope with S&S couplings, I reckon a solo will be just fine – Not had any issues with them and it is the most grin inducing bike I’ve ever had.

Nicolai Helius? The one where the rear triangle folds in? I believe they do a special bag for it now, too!!

No riding compromise at all then.

Swift Folder – they ride nice and you can pull part to put in a case

you can also buy complete bike (Xootr) or frame only direct from Swift

run SS, gears, hub gear, narrow tyres, fat tyres (20″ knobbles, has V brakes) etc
