    I need to get something proper to go with the flats.

    I don’t ride hard/enough to justify 5/10s.

    Any suggestions for cheap alternatives?

    Shimano am40?

    I use em, and they are certainly a lot better than the Nike 6.0 I had been using before I got the shimanos. I don’t know how they compare to 5/10s though.

    Teva Links. Or just get the Five Ten freerider. You don’t have to ride hard. They’re just good.
