OK bit of a tough one for me to decide on.
Due to go to The Whiterooms for a week on Saturday.
Yay brilliant.
But I had a big stack on Sunday and landed on my back.
Being a bloke I didn’t go to the hospital despite having to try a sleep in a chair as I couldn’t lie down.
My hope being that I’d just given myself a dead back or something…
Anyway fast forwards to today and I’m still in a fair amount of pain but it no longer feels like someone is stabbing me when i try to lie down.
So I do seem to have got a little better but not much.
Got a docs appointment in a bit so see what he says.
The question is what would you do?
A- Not go and claim on the insurance and hopefully get most of the money back and cancell the holiday with work.
B- Go and hope that by the time I get there it’ll be good enough to ride if I take it very steady.
C- Go and see if I can ride for a couple of days towards the end of the week.

The problems I can see with B/C is that I go all that way and still can’t ride and have lost holiday and money.
The problem with A is i’ll be letting Mrsstu down as she doesn’t want to go on her own and I also really want to go.
Over to you lot for serious and not so answers to cheer me up please.

Call your insurer after the docs, see if you can claim for the entire cost of the holiday (ie both of you) then buy the missus a nice present before you tell her she gets to go back to work

You would only in theory not be covered for biking/activities. ie riding a bike with a bad back isn’t safe. Not sure that would invalidate your insurance full stop.

Is the bike ok ?

It is now. Had to replace the crank. Bent it and ripped the pedal out.
Have decided the sensible thing to do is cancel and try to get a refund from the insurance. 😥

Oh well off to Ciclo in November anyway so we have something to look forwards to. 😀

The doctor pretty much makes the decision for you I’d have thought:

If the doctor says you’re good to go, your insurance won’t pay out if you cancel.

If the doctor says you’re not fit, and you go anyway, and your back lets you down, your insurance won’t pay out.

The second is more serious – in the first instance you lose the cost of the holiday, in the second you could have to find the money for helivac, hospital stay, repatriation….

Basically, do whatever the doctor says.

And make sure the Dr knows exactly what you mean by a cycling holiday.

I went to morzine in similar circumstances. I didn’t bother collecting the hire bike at all. I had a great holiday though. Beers and pizza fest.

Doc said he would fill the form in and it was up to me if I went or not as it wouldn’t cause any more damage but might be to painful to ride.
He’s a biker too so understands that an Alpine MTB holiday isn’t like sitting on a beach drinking lager.

I’ve very recently been in this position and cancelled a holiday with white room. I’d say if you are not confident to ride without going to the doctors then just cancel. Otherwise you would have to declare a pre existing medical condition which may not cover you for further damage to your back if you put a claim in. I actually had to get another insurance policy to cover me for my injuries when we went on a hiking holiday as my annual insurance policy doesn’t cover pre existing conditions

The riding is obviously terrible 😉 no. Not really. It’s awesome.

If you can’t ride, then you’re best to cancel, unless you’re happy to kick around the chalet and spend the late afternoon and evening with your mates.

Also, go see a very decent sports physio ASAP.

I wish I was bruised. The bruising still hasn’t come out yet. 😐
As for the form I’m still waiting for it to be filled in as they’re too busy to do it straight away take £30 off me.
He just said he’d fill it in that I wasn’t able to ride.
