Stayed there about 20 years ago in the days of prohibition in hostels:
Warden said to me "Is that beer in that mug?"…"apple juice" I assured him.
At the end of the evening I asked him as I tidied some mugs away "is that vodka in that glass?"…"water" he replied.
A quick sniff test proved otherwise……
Back then you needeed a sheet sleeping bag and your own scran.

    Stayed there last week:

Bedding? Blankets only, you'll need your own regulation sheet sleeping bag.

Food? Own food in and rubish out.

Managed? Yes by a nice German couple. Book and pay on line or take cash, they have no CC facilities (precious few facilities at all).

You checking out the route for later in the year Ton? Wish I was coming! 😆

(I Remember my 1st MTB, Saracen Tufftrax 1980summink. Rode from Cannich & up Glen Affrich but didn't quite get to Alltbeith YH, time against me!) Happy days.

Oh don't start posting pics of the Highlands.

    yes, planning for 7 day's 1st week in september…
but struggling with a suitable route.
we only take day bags for the week, ride in the same gear all week, just take a spare set for the evenings.
the lads like to finish each day with a pub session starting at about 6ish.. 😆

so carrying food and stuff into places is a no go.

did the caingorm area 2 years ago with stops in villagesand towns.
did inverness to glasgow with similar stops,
feel like i am struggling trying to string a 7 dayer together in the torridonish area………….. 😥
the place to stay are pretty well spread around up there.

I'm trying to arrange a shorter thing, like a base camp (out of the car if neccessary) & a couple of decent day rides, wash in a river etc. Did a Tour Le Benjamins Nevis last year which was ace.

Tony – rather than Alltbeithe, head for Tomich. There's a pub!

    Then Morvich There's a pub…..

Yes. The bit alongside Loch Beinn a' Mheadhoin and Loch Affric (South side) is all landy track. That gets you to Strawberry Cottage (Athnamulloch). The track to Alltbeith is rocky but all bikeable (I did it on the Ti hardtail – with panniers). From there to Camban should be fine. A bit of a carry down to Glenlicht House and then all good landie track again. Head for the Kintail Lodge Hotel – pretty sure they have a bunkhouse. They certainly have good food and beer.

If you are heading to Tomich, then you might be better using the route across Guisachan Forest from Glen Moriston (Torgyle Bridge). I haven't done this myself, but I reckon it might go easier than a cycle up Coire Dho to Cougie (which works better as a descent).

They do have abunkhouse at the Kintail Lodge Hotel. £14 pr night, two double and two single rooms. There's also a fantastic camp site at Morvich. Drying room etc. Obviously you'd have to carry a tent. Camban is a bothy and there's a small shelter at Glen Lichd House.
